In the era of advanced cataract surgeries, there are a plethora of intraocular lenses (IOLs) and it often becomes confusing for the patients to choose which one is best for them. We at Madhavi Netralaya believe in keeping things simple and transparent.
For the patients undergoing phacoemulsification, all the monofocal lens (i.e. the lens which helps patients to see distant objects comfortably) has same quantitative visual outcomes, which means the size of the smallest object that can be seen clearly remains same for all of these lenses. The costlier lenses have some additional benefits such as better contrast, sharpness, less rate of PCO formation etc which is discussed in the table.
The more premium lenses needs to be chosen based on multiple factors such as age, job profile, visual requirements, night time driving and requirement of depth perception. Presence of systemic conditions such as Diabetes, hypertension and other ocular conditions such as Glaucoma and Uveitis also can affect the choice of lens.
Below is a table to help you understand the features of each such category and to help you choose your suitable IOL.
